Historic Deerfield Undergraduate Summer Fellowship Program in Early American History and Material Culture
This tuition-free program gives college students the opportunity to explore history and material culture studies, conduct original research, and experience working at a museum. Historic Deerfield, Inc., invites applications from college juniors and seniors to take part in an intensive, nine-week Summer Fellowship Program in History and Material Culture. College juniors (graduating in 2025), and seniors who expect to graduate in 2024 are eligible for 7 openings in the program, which is designed for undergraduate students in African American Studies, American Studies, Architecture, Archaeology, Art and Art History, Design, Historic Preservation, History, Material Culture, Native American Studies, and Museum Studies. The program is immersive and academically rigorous (fellows will be engaged most nights and weekends), fun (fellows get to know cohort members from around the country and travel to regional museums and historic sites), and skill-building (fellows gain practical experience with guiding, interpretation of material culture, research, writing, and the formal presentation of research findings).

This unique residential living-and-learning opportunity takes place at Historic Deerfield, in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Each participant receives a full fellowship that covers all expenses associated with the program, including tuition, room and board, and field trips. A limited number of stipends are awarded to students with demonstrated need to help cover lost summer income. Financial aid awards are need blind and application for assistance has no impact on the program application.

The 2024 program begins June 3 and ends August 5. Applications are now being accepted online at historic-deerfield.org/sfp. The application deadline is February 5, 2024. Notification of acceptances will be announced in March.

The purpose of the Career Exploration course is to discover and examine career interest(s) and potential jobs(s) in accordance with the varied disciplines extant for Fordham College. These include résumé and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing skills and a social media online presence, and other career development planning.

VART 1111 Connection & Context: An Introduction to Art & Engagement
Fridays 2:30-5:15pm | Lincoln Center Campus
How can art address pressing social issues and build communities? How can artmaking and viewing be a way to spend time together and create space for complex sociopolitical positions? This course considers the aesthetic issues of art in context—such as the different ways an artwork may be interpreted—and includes a brief overview of the history of social practice art. We will explore the rich cultural resources that New York City offers by visiting museums and other art venues, making site visits to street-art and public-art locations, and attending screenings or performances when possible. Students will also work with Fordham’s community partners for the community-engaged learning component of the class. Assignments in this hybrid seminar/studio course include readings, reflections, and creative projects in a range of art mediums.

Hovy's house-forward shows draw from a number of Latin influences, with the flavors of cumbia, samba, salsa and Latin jazz deeply saturating his sets. His stylistic ease with house and techno borrows liberally from electronic traditions hailing from as far afield as Detroit to Ibiza. For his debut dance club performance at the David Rubenstein Atrium, Hovy curates Journey Into Sound, an imaginative travelogue through all the audio adventures he's undertaken on the road to Lincoln Center, the biggest stage in a career that already promises
