Made in NYC Community Engagement Intern

This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City program and is only available to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill.

Made in NYC is a nonprofit initiative that supports local manufacturers and makers in New York City. We provide skills-building programs, marketing and promotional platforms, and small business resources for free to all Made in NYC members. We build a strong community of makers, facilitate local collaborations, and advocate for manufacturing in the city.

We are looking for a Community Engagement Intern to support outreach and recruitment efforts to our member businesses and prospective member businesses, and to help our team plan and implement our annual Made in NYC Week event series. Occurring May 10-18, 2024, the sixth annual Made in NYC Week will organize hundreds of direct sales and exposure opportunities for local makers and manufacturing businesses, while providing New Yorkers a space to meet with and learn about creative entrepreneurs in their community.

Responsibilities

  • Support outreach efforts to current Made in NYC members to register for workshops and creative services, and participate in events and marketing campaigns.
  • Engage with current members to build out their member profiles in our online member directory (relaunching in February 2024), and support review of submitted content.
  • Represent the Made in NYC program at markets throughout the City and speak to potential members, to recruit and onboard into the Made in NYC community.
  • Research new prospective Made in NYC members and support outreach to promote our membership program and other free opportunities.
  • Help to establish a volunteer ambassador program to promote the Made in NYC program to makers and manufacturing businesses across the city.
  • Research and aggregate events and resources from partner organizations.
  • Help to plan and organize Made in NYC Week 2024, our sixth annual celebration of the local maker and manufacturer community.

Skills and Interests

Strong verbal communication skills and comfort with public speaking and community engagement is required. Interest in urban manufacturing, marketing, branding, and small business support, are all a plus.

Eligibility

This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City Internships program at Fordham University and is available only to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill who will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship. Students enrolled in other schools at Fordham or who will graduate or transfer before the internship end date are not eligible. Preference will be given to current third-year students.

The internship term is for five months from early to mid January 2024 through the end of May, at 14 hours/week. This is a hybrid in-person and remote position, with one day per week taking place at our office at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and one day per week remote and/or in the field. Some weekend work days will be required to visit pop-up markets for member recruitment and during Made in NYC Week in mid May.

The Community Engagement Intern will report to Made in NYC’s Senior Program Manager and work in collaboration with the Program Manager and Marketing Fellow.
