Dear Members of the Fordham Community,

Whether you are worried about the tenor of our political discourse right now, or eager to learn more civil discourse skills yourself, we have an idea for you. As part of the ongoing programming for the FitzSimons Presidential Initiative on Civics and Civility, we want to come together to discuss a book—I Never Thought of It That Way. Monica Guzman gives very specific advice on how we can engage with others on difficult topics, drawing on her own experiences as a journalist, first-generation American, and workshop leader.

This community-wide reading program will include students, faculty, and administrators; you can sign up for reading groups with us, or create your own. These groups will start in November and take place over the remainder of the school year, with each group having the flexibility to decide how often, where, and how they will meet, as well as the pace with which they will read the book.

We have a limited number of complimentary books available courtesy of the FitzSimons Initiative and the Fordham Law School; in exchange, we simply ask that you either join a discussion group or submit a short reflection in the coming months. You will receive an email with campus pick-up locations in the coming days.

AMDG,
Anthony A. Berry
