Museum Administration and Audience Engagement Intern

This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City Internships program and is available only to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill who will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship. Students enrolled in other schools at Fordham or who will graduate or transfer before the internship end date are not eligible.

The City Reliquary seeks an energetic and dedicated individual with passion for small museums, civic spirit, and local New York City history, to join our growing team as part of the Serving the City Internship Program.

The City Reliquary has a small but dedicated team, allowing a resourceful intern the opportunity to spearhead initiatives, and gain experiences and responsibilities that may not be possible in larger nonprofit organizations. As part of Fordham University’s Serving the City Internship Program, this internship will help advance the City Reliquary mission, while offering professional experience in museum administration.

Reporting to a member of the Board of Trustees, the main focuses of the internship will be:

  • Visitor Engagement: The intern will spend each Friday on-site as the sole representative of the museum from 12pm-6pm. The intern will be responsible for preparing the museum for visitors, serving as the face of the organization, and welcoming and orienting visitors. The day concludes with a few simple clerical tasks and closing up or helping to prepare for an evening event.
  • Programming and Events: Events play a large role in the City Reliquary’s mission activities and help introduce new visitors and prospects to the institution. This intern will help support events through staffing, logistics, and coordination.
  • In collaboration with the intern, the team will identify additional opportunities that best utilize the intern's talents and help grow their skill set. One of the things that makes our small museum a magical place to be a team member is that we have a need to fit every talent or special interest an intern may have! We are very open to unique ideas and peculiar passions and look forward to hearing about your own curiosities.

Candidates should be able to commit to working 10 to 12 hours a week. Six of these hours will be spent each Friday at the museum front desk from 12pm to 6pm on Fridays in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with the remainder of the time including being present for events, some meetings, and working remotely.

The internship will culminate in a final project determined according to the intern’s talents and interests. This includes–but is not limited to–: researching and writing blog posts on objects in the museum collection, proposing and producing a public program, or helping to draft a sponsorship pitch or portions of the biweekly eblast.

Excellent written and verbal communication; highly organized with great attention to detail; strong research, writing and editing skills; reliable, self-motivated, punctual, and flexible handling diverse tasks; full professional proficiency in English; and proficiency with Google Docs and analytical spreadsheets.
