Curatorial Intern

Internship opportunity with The Jewish Museum
 
This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City Internships program and is available only to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill who will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship. Students enrolled in other schools at Fordham or who will graduate or transfer before the internship end date are not eligible.

The Jewish Museum is an art museum committed to illuminating the complexity and vibrancy of Jewish culture for a global audience. Through distinctive exhibitions and programs that present the work of diverse artists and thinkers, we share ideas, provoke dialogue, and promote understanding.
 
The curatorial intern will conduct research on the Jewish Museum’s world-renowned Judaica collection, which includes ceremonial objects from a vast range of cultures, regions, and periods. The intern will also assist in research questions on Judaica--including Esther scrolls and ceremonial objects related to the holiday of Purim--which will be featured in an upcoming Jewish Museum exhibition.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
This intern will:
  • Assist in everyday tasks and short-term projects including:
  • Creating a range of presentations on Judaica
  • Researching Judaica in the Jewish Museum’s collection
  • Research on potential acquisitions, including locating comparable examples in museums, identifying market values, and investigating the provenance of the piece, especially to determine the ownership and location of the object during WWII
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Open to current undergraduate students only
  • Resident of the NYC metropolitan area with availability for some onsite work
  • Interest in museum work, art, and Jewish culture
  • Must have internet access and computer with camera
 
Stipend: $6,000 to be paid in 4 equal installments across both semesters.
