Curatorial Intern

Internship opportunity with Museum of Arts and Design
 
This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City Internships program and is available only to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill who will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship. Students enrolled in other schools at Fordham or who will graduate or transfer before the internship end date are not eligible.



 
Curatorial intern
8 hours per week, in-person
Stipend: $6,000 to be paid in 4 equal installments
Start Date: week of October 2, 2023
End Date: May 2024
 
The mission of the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is to collect, display, and interpret objects that document contemporary and historic innovation in craft, art, and design. In its exhibitions and educational programs, the Museum celebrates the creative process through which materials are crafted into works that enhance contemporary life.
 
The curatorial intern will assist the curatorial staff in researching the permanent collection and upcoming/potential exhibitions.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
This intern will be:
●     As directed by supervisor(s), determine which artists/objects in the collection need additional research, including by reviewing MAD curatorial records (both digital and paper files)
●     As directed by supervisor(s), conduct research on artists and objects in the collection, including by reviewing MAD sources (digital and paper files) and library research
●     Review research with supervisor and input approved research into the museum collection database (The Museum System), manually and by scanning/updating digital files. Consolidate/organize/update/scan existing paper files
●     Research on upcoming/potential exhibitions, as directed by supervisor(s)
 
QUALIFICATIONS
An applicant for this position should have experience/interest/background in:
●    20th and 21st century art history (art history and/or studio art majors preferred)
●    Interest in curatorial/museum work
●    Excellent research and writing skills
●    Ability to work independently. with guidance from supervisor(s), as well as in a team
●    Familiarity with and/or interest in learning Microsoft suite and The Museum System collections database
●    Reliable, punctual, and with strong interpersonal skills
