Graphic Design Intern
Internship opportunity with ORION MAGAZINE
This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City Internships program and is available only to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill who will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship. Students enrolled in other schools at Fordham or who will graduate or transfer before the internship end date are not eligible.

Organization Description: Orion is a magazine of environmental writing which invites readers into a community of caring for the planet. Through writing and art that explore the connection between nature and culture, Orion inspires new thinking about how humanity might live on Earth justly, sustainably, and joyously. Recent contributors to Orion include Margaret Atwood, Ross Gay, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Robert Macfarlane, and Aimee Nezhukumatathil.
Description of Duties:
Orion produces a mix of magazine stories, referrals, and original content on its website 3-4x per week, drawing an annual traffic of approx. 1.2 million visits. This position will report to Orion’s Digital Strategist and will be primarily tasked with creating graphics to support the publication of that content, along with design projects for marketing, fundraising, and editorial.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Generating visual assets for email newsletter
- Designing fundraising communications and mailers
- Creating photoshop templates for social media posts and website banners
- Mobilizing magazine content to the website; assisting with photo research
QUALIFICATIONS:
This applicant should have:
- Proficiency with Photoshop and InDesign
- Familiarity with project management tools like Slack and Asana
- Comfort with working remotely
Preferred:
- Creating gifs and animations
- Experience with WordPress or other CMSs
- Appreciation for environmental writing
Stipend: $6,000 to be paid in 4 equal installments.
