Government & Community Affairs Intern (Spring 2023)

Internship opportunity with 9/11 Memorial & Museum

 

This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City Internships program and is available only to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill who will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship. Students enrolled in other schools at Fordham or who will graduate or transfer before the internship end date are not eligible.

15-20hrs/week (flexible) to total 200hrs

Hybrid is strongly preferred, this may be 1-2 days in the office depending on hours

End Date: 04/30/2024

 

The 9/11 Memorial is located at the site of the former World Trade Center complex in lower Manhattan, and occupies approximately half of the 16-acre site. The 9/11 Memorial features two enormous waterfalls and reflecting pools, each about an acre in size, set within the footprints of the Twin Towers. 

 

The National September 11 Memorial Museum is the country’s principal institution concerned with exploring the implications of the events of 9/11, documenting the impact of those events and exploring 9/11’s continuing significance. Located at the bedrock/foundation level of the Twin Towers, the Museum is a moving tribute to the events of September 11th.

 

The Government & Community Affairs department works directly with the 9/11 stakeholder community, including 9/11 family members, rescue and recovery workers and the first responder community, through diverse forms of outreach, events and engagements. The team also develops relationships with Military & Veteran communities and Government agencies to further our mission. The Government & Community Affairs Intern will work to support this work. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Intern will work closely on the following projects:

 

  • Visionary Network: Assist in expanding and implementing events and marketing materials for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Visionary Network, a group of people between the ages of 21 and 45 who through acts of advocacy, commemoration, and engagement, seek to deepen their connection to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and to ensure that their generation and future generations remember 9/11 and its aftermath.
  • Military & Veteran Community Outreach: The 9/11 Memorial strives to deepen its relationship with the 9/11 community including 9/11 family members, rescue, recovery, and relief workers, military, first responders, and survivors. Working with government agencies and non-profit organizations, the Intern will assist the Government & Community Affairs team implement a robust outreach plan to engage with this community. 
  • Museum VIP Visits; Support the planning and implementing of VIP events and visits, compiling background research in advance as well as producing and distributing full briefings;
  • Administrative support: Monitor inquiries from key stakeholders that come through multiple public-facing communication outlets, logistical support for events, project research

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements Are:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated research skills and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite. 
  • You must clear a background check as part of the onboarding process
