WP Theater is the nation’s oldest and largest theater company dedicated to developing, producing and promoting plays written and directed by Women+*. WP was founded in 1978 by Julia Miles to address the significant under-representation of women in theater. Throughout its 45-year history, WP has produced over 700 Off-Broadway and workshop productions and published eleven anthologies of plays.

WP produces an annual season of three Mainstage productions, typically World or NYC premieres, and a Pipeline Festival of five new plays every other year. Most of our Mainstage work is created in partnership with peer theaters or an enhancing producer. In addition, WP has several key programs including our two-year Lab residency, our viBe partnership with viBe Theater Experience, and our newly launched Space Program, which provides smaller producers and institutions subsidized access to our theater to increase access to space to launch their work.

WP prides itself on an equitable work environment, constantly reviewing our workplace culture and policies to make it more accessible, interesting, and challenging for the administrators and artists we hope to call us their home. We meet regularly to address our anti-racism actions and practices and consistently focus on how we can make WP the best cultural workspace in NY. We celebrate the varied perspectives, characteristics, and attributes that make each individual unique; applicants from historically oppressed identities are strongly encouraged to apply.

*When we say Women+ we mean people who are cis women, trans, non-binary, or gender-nonconforming people, and all gender identities which have been systematically oppressed throughout history in the theater and beyond.
