Community Engagement Intern

Internship opportunity with New Settlement
 
This paid internship is funded by the Serving the City Internships program and is only available to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill.

The New Settlement Community Center, which opened in 2012, offers a range of programs including dance, yoga, mixed martial arts, music, swimming, and more to 12,000 members and others who take individual classes. All classes are either low-cost or free and serve community members 6-month-old to Seniors. The Community Center houses an indoor competition-size swimming pool, dance studio, green roof learning garden, cooking classroom, and multipurpose spaces. Located in the Mt. Eden section of the Southwest Bronx, the Community enter is built upon more than thirty years of work at New Settlement Apartments to revitalize this once abandoned neighborhood with 2,000 units of quality affordable housing and a range of programs that have strengthened social and academic outcomes for a generation of young people. The vision of the New Settlement Community Center is to create a culture of community by providing a space place for all ages and abilities to participate in social engagement, sports, exercise, and education. All focused on improving the quality of life and promoting healthy lifestyles for its members.
 
The Community Engagement Intern will support the Outreach team in providing awareness within the local and surrounding community about our facility, what we offer, and ways we can build partnerships with other community-based organizations and institutions.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Support with the on-site hosting of community partners through Community Engagement events (Meet & Greets, Informational Sessions, Tablings)
  • Support in the creation of Outreach materials, including social media posts, e-blasts, Instagram reels, flyers, and more for Community Engagement events
  • Taking meeting minutes during Discovery calls with potential partners and collaborators
  • Join Membership & Outreach Associate on community outings to promote NSCC awareness (street flyering, community partner visits, community partner events)
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Interest in learning how to facilitate positive inter-agency communication around programming
  • Growth-mindset towards marketing and retention efforts for non-profit organizations
  • Desire to support Public Health and Social Service initiatives on a community-based level
  • Willingness to embrace Outreach strategies that include phone call, email, and face-to-face, social media direct messaging communications
  • Understanding of what professional communication and accountability look like in a fast-paced and quickly shifting environment
  • Ability to embrace flexible scheduling

Pay

Stipend: $3,000 to be paid in 2 equal installments (paid through Serving the City)
